Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week awards the most sustainable bridal fashion

The Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week (BBFW) hold yesterday the very first edition of the Barcelona Bridal & Fashion Awards gala in which the best creations of the season have been recognized and the sustainability of the designs and their innovation rewarded. The nine winners were Vivienne Westwood for the best wedding dress, the Viktor & Rolf Mariage bridal collection, Carlo Pignatelli’s bridal collection, Cortana’s cocktail designs, Isabel Sanchis’ sustainable party dress, Monvieve’s image campaign, Nicole & Felicia Chang’s emerging talent, and the fashion designer Professor Jimmy Choo OBE, creative director of The Atelier Couture, who received a lifetime achievement award and entrepreneur Yew LohKey, CEO of  The Atelier Couture, Key Brand Ambassador award.

Marlene model HC 2022 by Vivienne Westwood was chosen as the best wedding dress of the year. With this award, the Barcelona event pays tribute to the iconic British designer who passed away last December, praising a creative proposal inspired by Marlene Dietrich. Made with sustainable and recycled materials, the best wedding dress of the season is in tune with the spirit of a time where aesthetics embraces sustainability and inclusivity.

The award to the best women’s bridal collection went to the famous Dutch firm Viktor and Rolf Mariage for imbuing its bridal collections with the savoir faire of the tradition of the fashion trades and making this precious heritage a source of inspiration for activating creativity.

The best bridal fashion for grooms category awarded Carlo Pignatelli‘s collection for catalyzing the essence of what it means to dress the groom for the ceremony, ensuring the excellence of materials and execution, and achieving an unmistakable balance between classicism and creativity.

The best evening/cocktail collection award went to the Spanish brand Cortana for its designs that combine artisan techniques and sustainable fashion with an aesthetic concept that aims to enhance the female body without forgetting comfort.

The award for the best image campaign went to the accessories brand Monvieve, which focuses on slow fashion and sustainability.

Honorary Awards

Also, the Barcelona Bridal & Fashion Awards has recognized with the honorary lifetime achievement Professor Jimmy Choo OBE for his life’s work dedicated to design and for his work since 2017 as creative director of the bridal fashion brand The Atelier Couture, and to Yew Loh director of this brand,  who has received Key Brand Ambassador Award. The malaysian brandt one more year has once again shone on the catwalk and trade show of the BBFW.

The honorary award for emerging talent went to Nicole and Felicia Chang. The Taiwanese entrepreneurs founded the Nicole&Felicia brand to redefine modern bridal luxury, reinterpreting the beauty and confidence of every woman.

Finally, Isabel Sanchis’ Kazan ball gown, with silk tulle bodice, paillette crop top and liquid satin skirt made from recycled polyester yarns from plastic bottles earned the last special distinction.

A luxury jury

The aim of these new awards is to distinguish the work of international bridal fashion designers who embody the event’s values including creativity, originality, quality, inspiration, art, innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. To achieve this, a group of leading specialists was assembled, coordinated by fashion expert and historian Charo Mora and comprised of Leticia García, editor-in-chief of SModa magazine; Manuel Outumuro, photographer; Paula Varsalona, designer and professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology of New York; Triana Alonso, editor of the publication Fashion Network; and María José Gonzálvez, associate fashion director of Vogue Mexico, to selected a total of 50 nominees.

Then, after evaluating all candidates, the jury formed by Jen Campbell, founder of Green Wedding Shoes; Giovanni Sparacio, editor-in-chief of Elle Sposa Italia; Anna Frascisco, prestigious wedding planner; Elisa De Wyngaert, curator of MoMu Fashion Museum Antwerp; Haruhi Abe, editor-in-chief of 25ans, and Albasari Caro, director of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week chose the winners.

All the winners received an exclusive trophy handmade by Cual Estudio (Valencia), designed in line with the mission of BBFW to focus on art and creations of proximity.

The awards were organized by Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, the world’s leading bridal fashion show organized by Fira de Barcelona with the support of the Catalan Ministry of Business and Labour and held until this afternoon with a large number of attendees, key buyers and professionals from the world of fashion.
