Once again this year, the EIBA Awards, organised by Elle magazine in collaboration with BBFW, have rewarded the talent, excellence and professionalism of the different designers, brands, entrepreneurs and operators who perform their roles in a range of fields in the bridal world.
The jury, made up of the editors of ELLE’s international editions in Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Spain and Turkey, plus the director of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, Estermaria Laruccia, recognised the Israeli designer Galía Lahav for excellence, quality and style with the award for Best Wedding Dress for “Seraphina” from the Autumn/Winter 2021 “Dancing Queen” collection; the Dutch designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren of the eponymous Viktor & Rolf brand for their Spring/Summer 2021 collection, and the Italian designer Carlo Pignatelli for the Best Bridal Collection for his “Sartorial Wedding 2021”.
The 2021 collection “Alma Gaia” by the Norwegian designer Leila Hafzi received the Sustainability Award. This category, which made its début at the EIBA 2020 awards, demonstrates the bridal fashion world’s growing sensitivity to values such as sustainability and respect for the environment. American designer Juliette Kim of Newhite won the award for Best New Talent for her avant-garde style, both impeccable and practical at the same time.
Two Spanish firms among the winners
The Barcelona firm Yolancris, run by sisters Yolanda and Cristina Pérez, was awarded the prize for Best Bridal Fashion Show for the presentation of the “Touch 2021” collection at the 100% virtual edition of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week 2020. The fashion show combined craftsmanship, digital art and the classic Yolancris look, designed for the contemporary bride. The brand “Romancera” from the Madrid designer Tamara Vazquez was also recognised, this time for having created the “Best Advertising Campaign”, which was focused on her particular vision of design, sewing and her connection with nature.
The company De Beers was recognised for “Aura”, the Best Wedding Jewellery Collection; the Baros Maldives Resort (Baros Island, Republic of Maldives) as the Best Honeymoon Resort, and the Italian Roberta Torresan as the Best Wedding Planner. The awards for Best Multibrand Store went to the retail shops Micie (Japan); Oh Oui Bridal (Germany); L’Arca (Barcelona, Spain); Antonella Lepriero (Italy); Vakko Wedding (Turkey); Hanah Bridal (Hong Kong); and Kleinfield (USA).
Finally, the year’s Career Achievement award went to the Italian designer Peter Langner for his “constant professional commitment and the attention and care he has always put into his work”.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the winners and all the nominees and thank the ELLE International Network team, with whom we share a passion for bridal fashion and a mission to contribute to its success around the world,” said Estermaria Laruccia, Director of BBFW.
According to Massimo Russo, director of Elle Spose Italia, a co-organiser of the event, “we are very happy to renew our partnership with BBFW and to continue our international awards dedicated to the world of weddings. We have never stopped believing in the value and great competence of all those who make this industry so unique and special”.
BBFW returns in April 2022
The broadcast of the EIBA awards ceremony is a complement to the BBFW GALA 2021, held last October, and the various activities that Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week has scheduled for the months leading up to its next edition, which will take place from 20 to 24 April 2022 at the Montjuïc venue. The event organisers are already getting ready for its return with the aim of promoting the brands’ new products among professionals and brides-to-be and boosting the international market to become, once again, the largest business platform, meeting point and global spotlight for the bridal fashion industry.
The leading names in the market, as well as some of the up-and-coming young talent, will be presenting their collections for the 2023 season on the show’s catwalk from 20 to 23 April, while the trade show will be taking place from 22 to 24 April, featuring the latest proposals and novelties from the participating designers and companies.
The event, which will once again be held in person, will also feature a digital space to facilitate commercial contacts and the dissemination of brands around the world.
